My Story
Dr. Elmann grew up in Brooklyn and has spent his career bringing subspecialty retina care to the community he calls home. He is one of a small number of fellowship-trained retinal surgeons practicing in Brooklyn — meaning his patients get subspecialty expertise without traveling to Manhattan. Dr. Elmann speaks English, Spanish, Hebrew, and Arabic, and welcomes patients from all backgrounds. He is a Castle Connolly recognized Top Doctor, a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and an assistant professor at St. John’s ophthalmology residency program — where he helps train the next generation of eye doctors. His Training Dr. Elmann earned his medical degree through the accelerated BA-MD program at SUNY Downstate, where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. He completed his ophthalmology residency at SUNY — where he was elected Chief Resident and received the EC Lazzaro Excellence in Teaching Award. He then completed a fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery at the National Retina Institute under internationally renowned surgeon Dr. Bert M. Glaser. He has published research, presented findings nationally and internationally, and has authored numerous abstracts, papers, and publications. His research interests include therapeutics in retinal disease, laser photocoagulation therapy, and diabetic retinal disease.
